Truls Möregårdh is a gifted Swedish table tennis player, born on February 16, 2002. He is a right-handed shakehand-grip athlete with inverted rubbers on both sides, widely regarded as the successor to Swedish legend Jan-Ove Waldner for his creative, unorthodox game sense. He is famous for his signature STIGA Cybershape Carbon hexagonal blade.
Technical Features
His most iconic weapon is the backhand chop block. Unlike conventional backhand flicks or loops, this shot produces weird, sinking spin and erratic trajectories. It breaks the opponent’s rhythm and forces rushed returns, making it extremely disruptive against heavy topspin attacks. He also uses sharp backhand punches for fast counterattacks.
Möregårdh has a rich, tricky service toolkit. He mixes high toss serves, reverse rotations, short and long variations, focusing on messing up opponents’ timing rather than pure spin power.
His forehand is powerful and aggressive. He loves mid-table counterattacking: he waits to read incoming loops and strikes early with heavy forehand topspin.
He is an instinctive, creative player with bold shot selection and excellent spin reading.
Key weakness: He tends to struggle in long, steady high-speed topspin rallies. When opponents lock him into repeated consistent exchanges, his error rate rises quickly.
